SUCI(C) severely condemns Zionist Israeli attack on Palestine aid flotilla
and calls upon world people to rise up in protest

Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI (Communist) in course of a statement issued on 3 June, 2010 said that the imperialist superpower-backed Zionist Israeli regime which just a year back carried out a murderous assault on the Palestine freedom fighters of Gaza strip struggling for realizing their just demand for a sovereign Palestine state with its capital in Jerusalem, virtually slaughtered them with beastly savagery has once again, violating all international laws, committed a most criminal act by attacking in international waters a flotilla of boats carrying humanitarian aid to the beleaguered people of Gaza suffering from acute shortage of food, water, fuel, medicine and other essential items owing to the illegal blockade imposed by the Israeli rulers since 2007. Comrade Provash Ghosh severely condemned this ghastly act in which at least nine of the unarmed peace activists have been killed and several others have received grievous injuries due to merciless beating and application of electric shocks.

The extremely mild manner in which the US imperialists have reacted to such a savage act in flagrant violation of all international rules and norms only vindicates the feeling of the right thinking people round the world that but for direct backing of the Pentagon regime, the Zionist Israeli rulers could have never dared to launch such brutal offensives one after another. The President of the European Parliament has also ended his responsibility by issuing a meek protest reaffirming connivance and indulgence of the imperialist superpowers in the barbaric acts of Israeli rulers. Instead of coming out with strong condemnation of this Israeli atrocity let alone taking any punitive measure against the perpetrators of such a heinous crime, the casual manner in which the UN Security Council has ordered for a simple investigation of the incident has been shocking. It only lends credence to the apprehension of the right thinking people that UNO has virtually become a rubber stamp of the US imperialists and their allies, observed Comrade Provash Ghosh.

Comrade Provash Ghosh has called upon all the peace loving democratic minded people of the world to rise in protest and build up powerful anti-imperialist movement throughout the world against such sinister gunboat diplomacy of the imperialist superpowers and their pliant regimes and in support of the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people.

SUCI(C) strongly denounced Bhopal gas tragedy verdict,
demanded stringent punishment of the culprits and called for observing
All India Protest Day on 9th June

Reacting to the verdict of the Bhopal District Court on the Bhopal gas tragedy that occurred in the Union Carbide plant in 1984, Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI(C) in course of a statement issued on 8 June said that while the countrymen expected that a crime of such magnitude which caused death to nearly 25,000 people and maimed, injured, slow poisoned and seriously affected in some way or other over 5.5 lakh more would be thoroughly investigated with due promptitude and the culprits hauled up, tried and swiftly meted out stringent punishment, the judiciary-administration combine showed unusual lethargy in carrying out the proceedings, diluted the importance of the case by shifting it from the charge of ‘culpable homicide’ to ‘causing death by negligence’ and then allowed legal process to meander on its tortuous path for 26 long years to ultimately end in a travesty of justice. Stunned people of the country find that the eight accused found responsible for the biggest industrial disaster in the history were only asked to pay Rs 1 lakh as fine and undergo imprisonment for just two years. And the height of mockery was that all the accused were granted bail against personal bond of just Rs 25,000 immediately after the verdict was read out. It may be recalled, observed Comrade Ghosh, that Chairman and CEO of Union Carbide, giant US multinational now owned by Dow Chemicals, another notorious US MNC, who was arrested after the deadly leak of poisonous gas was immediately released on bail and then allowed a safe passage to US to quietly avoid all legal actions as his extradition, the government knew, would be denied by the US government citing provisions of bilateral treaty between the two countries. Also in order to suppress the entire crime, the central government in 1989 dropped all criminal charges filed against the Union Carbide authorities and instead entered into an out of court settlement in which the accused US multinational got away by paying on average just Rs 12, 410 to each victim. Whenever the hapless victims, their family members and common people came out in protest against such inhuman and barbaric act of the government, they received bullets and bayonets of the insolent rulers. None of the governments whether headed by the Congress, BJP or the CPI(M)-backed United Front was ever interested in securing justice for the victims. On the contrary, they were all keen to ensure that the culprit corporate house and the concerned industrial barons and their pliant executives escape unscathed after committing such a savage crime on humanity. It is pertinent to mention here that even after such a lethal incident, the Congress-led UPA government in its proposed ‘Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, 2010’, proposes to limit the maximum amount of liability in case of a nuclear accident in any of the nuclear plants at Rs 500 crore and absolve the suppliers and operators of such plants of all other responsibilities let alone criminal charge in case of a nuclear accident. The entire episode glaringly exposes how the governments, irrespective of hue, the administration and judiciary in capitalist India are nakedly serving the class interest of the domestic and foreign monopoly capital and are decidedly anti-people in every bit of their action.

Comrade Provash Ghosh, therefore, called upon the countrymen not to allow such brazenly criminal acts by lying low but build up countrywide powerful movement to wrest justice. Comrade Ghosh also demanded stringent punishment of all the culprits of the Bhopal tragedy, adequate compensation for the victims and their families and immediate effective step to free the site of the accident from dangerous pollution. He also announced that SUCI(C) will observe All India Protest Day on 9th June against this farcical verdict and organize demonstrations on that day in each of the state capitals.

Excuse dished out by the Finance Minister has only given rise
to more questions — Comrade Provash Ghosh

Reacting to the statement of the Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI (Communist) in course of a statement issued on 15 June, 2010 said that after maintaining a conspicuous silence for a few days, the way the Congress as an afterthought has presented through Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee an excuse to cover up their culpable offence in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, has stoked up more questions and has increased the magnitude of their sin manifold.

The questions are: Could Arjun Singh as the state chief minister take such an important decision of its kind on his own without the directive, approval or even knowledge of the central leadership of the party and the Prime Minister? Could he allow the main accused of such a horrendous crime to escape even after arrest to USA with honour under official arrangement? Is it to be believed that the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi did not know anything of the matter even though he was very much present in company with Arjun Singh at Bhopal on the very same day when Anderson was granted bail and sent to Delhi, asked Comrade Ghosh.

After thrusting the responsibility on to Arjun Singh in order to save the skin of Rajiv Gandhi, the Finance Minister has tried to plead innocence of Arjun Singh with the plea that with massive people’s protest bursting forth after the disaster, Anderson’s presence in Bhopal would have entailed law and order problems. This logic, too, does not stand scrutiny. Because, the then Congress government showed enough ‘competence’ in preserving law and order by brutally baton-charging on the agitating relatives of the dead and injured. What additional problem would have been created had Anderson been present in the city, questioned Comrade Ghosh.

And, even if it is assumed for argument’s sake that there was such a necessity, what prompted the ruling party and its government to suddenly grant bail to an under-trial accused of such a heinous crime and allow him a safe passage to his own country instead of shifting him to Delhi or elsewhere in India? Why was he not brought back during all these years? Is it not because of appeasing the foreign multinational and maintaining a friendly relation with US imperialism which is a class necessity of ruling Indian capitalism and its subservient state, observed Comrade Ghosh

Moreover, there is no propriety of the parties like the BJP and the CPI(M) to complain on this issue. After Rajiv Gandhi’s rule at the Centre, VP Singh-led government supported by the BJP and the CPI(M), United Front government supported by the Congress and the CPI (M), BJP-led NDA government, and the last UPA government enjoying support and cooperation from the CPI(M) were progressively saddled in power. All these governments and their constituent as well as supporting political parties did not take any step towards bringing Anderson back to this country, carrying out proper investigation of the Bhopal Tragedy and providing just compensation to the families and relatives of the dead and injured. They did not even utter a single word in this regard. So, would it be wrong to conclude that both the BJP and the CPI (M) are also constrained by the same compulsion as that of the Congress, asked Comrade Provash Ghosh.

SUCI(C) demands exemplary punishment of
Jnaneswari Express accident culprits

Comrade Soumen Basu, Secretary, West Bengal State Committee, SUCI(C) in a statement issued on 28 May, 2010 strongly condemned the most ghastly act of killing around 200 innocent common people and grievously injuring several hundred others by deliberately causing a devastating accident of Calcutta-Mumbai Jnaneswari Express near Sardiha station around 1.15 AM of the day. Those who have indulged in such a gruesome act, Maoists or anyone else in the name of the Maoists, have committed a heinous crime against humanity. We demand : —

i) Immediate arrest of the culprits through appropriate enquiry and mete out exemplary punishment to them.

ii) Appropriate measures on the part of both central and state governments to ensure total safety of rail and road transport passengers.

iii) Adequate compensation to the families of those having lost their lives as well as free proper treatment and due compensation to those having sustained injuries.

SUCI (Communist) opposes the hike of petrol and diesel prices and
calls for resisting the anti-people decision of the Congress-led UPA government
under pressure of powerful mass movement

Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI (Communist) in course of a statement issued on 1st April, said that after grabbing power in the cloak of saviour of poor people, the UPA government on pretext of curbing the pollution by introducing cleaner fuel, has hiked the petrol-diesel prices second time adding fuel to soaring prices of every essential commodities which has already reached an unbearable height. This time for petrol and diesel, the consumers will have to shell out Rs. 0.50 and Rs. 0.26 per litre more. Comrade Provash Ghosh termed it as another demonic attack on the common people which clearly shows that the UPA government is bent upon delivering one after another deadly blow on this or that plea to the toiling millions, while it, at the same time, is offering plethora of concessions, waivers, stimulation packages and amnesty to the monopolists and corporate houses whose fortunes are swelling.

Comrade Ghosh urged the common people to build up mighty movement to forestall his anti-people move of the government.

Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI(Communist) has passed away

Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI(Communist), a great revolutionary, freedom fighter and comrade-in-arms of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh, Founder General Secretary of the Party, after prolonged illness, breathed his last on 18 February, 2010 at 11 p.m. at the Calcutta Heart Clinic & Hospital. He was suffering from among other serious ailments sepsis with multi-organ failure, COPD and Parkinsonism. Comrade Mukherjee was 90.

After demise of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh in 1976, Comrade Nihar Mukherjee succeded him as the General Secretary of the Party. Since then, under his leadership, the Party conducted many important mass movements not only in the national sphere but also in the international sphere. In both First and Second Congress of the Party held in 1988 and 2009 respectively, Comrade Mukherjee was re-elected as the General Secretary.

At his very early teens, he was drawn into the vortex of the Indian freedom struggle and joined Anushilan Samity, a revolutionary organization, where he came in close contact of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh. When within Anusilan Samity a cult of Marxism-Leninism was released by a section of freedom fighters in the late 1930s, he associated himself with that. During the ‘Quit India’ movement in 1942, he, then underground, was arrested in Calcutta and spent three long years in the British jail. While Comrade Shibdas Ghosh initiated inside the jail the process of building up SUCI as a genuine communist party by concretizing Marxism-Leninism on the soil, Comrade Mukherjee engaged himself in that arduous struggle as a revolutionary compatriot of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh. In those days of hard struggle of party building process which culminated in the foundation of SUCI in 1948, Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, as close comrade-in-arms of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh, played a very significant role.

After independence, Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, as the then West Bengal State Secretary of the Party had, under the guidance of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh, played a decisive role in developing united left democratic movements in West Bengal. In course of that, Comrade Mukherjee emerged as a front-ranking leader of united left movement and while leading the mass struggles, was imprisoned several times during Congress rule. He was also detained in the jail for one year in 1962 under the Indian National Security Act. In his death, the country has lost a life-long revolutionary of rare mettle and a front ranking leader of left-democratic movement.

Comrade Mukherjee’s body will be kept laid at the party’s central office at 48, Lenin Sarani, Kolkata 700013 on Monday, 22 February, 2010 from 10 a.m. onwards. His last journey will commence on the same day at 3 p.m. and proceed to Keoratola burning ghat.

SUCI(C) strongly deprecate and condemn
deregulate non-urea fertilizer and increase urea prices

Central Committee of the SUCI(C) strongly deprecate and condemn the decision of the Congress-led UPA government to deregulate non-urea fertilizer and increase urea prices which has come as clear winner for the industry owner and have sounded death knell for the marginal and poor farmers of the country who are already burdened heavily by the price rise of other inputs and essential commodities. This hike of fertilizer prices will add fuel to further price rise of all essential items and burden the poor people more.

We urge the people to come forward, organize themselves in mass struggle committees everywhere, enroll the youngfolk as volunteer and launch countrywide protracted movement to force the government to retreat.

SUCI(C) condemns divisive move of Congress government on Telangana issue

Strongly condemning the decision of the high command of the Congress for starting the process of formation of Telangana State separating it from Andhra Pradesh, Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) in a press statement on December 13, 2009 said :

“The most divisive move of the Central Congress leadership to initiate the process for a separate Telangana has not only created a political crisis and eruption of violence in Andhra Pradesh but has also triggered of a fresh round of similar demands for different regions of the country like Bidarbha of Maharashtra, Gorkhaland of West Bengal, Boroland of Assam or Purvanchal in UP etc, dividing the people on narrow parochial lines. That formation of smaller states does not help developments of those regions and their toiling people but instead develops a top-heavy administration benefitting a handful of opportunists and greedy politicians and bureaucrats, the financial burden of which is borne by the people, is proved by the facts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttaranchal. But the harm it does to the unity of the people and their united movement is immense. And this explains why the Congress high command refused to grant a separate Telangana when formation of separate Telangana demanded its support and it had electoral alliance with TRS; but now has granted this when support for separate Telangana has drastically fallen. Actually the Congress has taken this most divisive move when the grievances of all sections of the toiling people are trying to burst forth against the continuous loss of jobs in factories, industries and offices etc, ever increasing tuition fees in schools and colleges, rise in bus fares and charges in other transport services and more particularly against the unprecedented rise in prices of all essential commodities making the life of the common people unbearable. As a party of the bourgeoisie BJP is vociferous about the formation of smaller states and CPI(M) to its narrow electoral gain, clubs itself with casteist, communalist and separatist forces fomenting ethnic and linguistic sentiments and by this abet them to pursue their divisive politics.

“People have to understand that the sole aim of this divisive move of the central government is surely not to develop those areas but to save the ruling class, its masters, by dividing the people and diverting their attention from their real problem to a fake and harmful one.

“We strongly urge the Central government to immediately withdraw this most divisive anti-people decision and appeal to the people not to fall prey to this sinister design of the bourgeois parties and their governments but to remain firmly united and defeat this sinister design of the central government by organising mighty united movement against the burning problems of their lives.”

SUCI strongly denounces a pro-capitalist pro-globalization
budget camouflaged under so-called aam aadmi plank

Strongly denouncing the union budget 2009-10, Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a statement issued on 8 July, 2009, said that while the common people have been reeling under unprecedented price rise, mounting unemployment, massive job loss, rapid decline in real income and wrenching poverty, the Congress-led UPA government, instead of addressing the basic problems of people’s life, has, true to its bourgeois class character, formulated a budget which has showered bounties of concessions and exemptions to the corporate houses in the name of boosting exports and stimulating internal growth by encouraging private investment believed to be the ‘principal driver of growth ’ by the Finance Minister. The Finance Minister stated emphatically that his government is “committed to creating a facilitating environment in which a competitive private sector can thrive and play its rightful role in nation’s economic development.” The unabated pursuit of brazenly anti-people agenda of capitalist globalization wreaking havoc in the life of the toiling masses round the world is glaringly manifest in the proposals of disinvestment of public sector units, withdrawal of fertilizer subsidy and privatization of fertilizer manufacturing, deregulation of petrol-diesel prices, increasing credit support to the impoverished through most deceptive microfinance mechanism and financing of private initiatives through cheap by government agencies. However, in order to shield all these vile moves, the Finance Minister has cunningly coined some camouflaging expressions like “people’s participation in our disinvestment programme”, “moving towards a nutrient based subsidy in fertilizer industry”, “unshackling of the fertilizer manufacturing sector”, “setting up an expert group to advise on a viable and sustainable system of pricing petroleum products”, “empowering the weak through Self-Help groups”, “refinancing 60 per cent of commercial bank loans for public private partnerships (PPP) projects” and “initiating institutional reform measures to encompass all aspects of the budget such as subsidies, taxes, expenditure and disinvestment and maintaining moderate interest rates”. The huge increase in most unproductive defence budget by over Rs 41, 000 crores has been inserted in the paragraph of non-plan expenditure by an apparent insignificant mention that “outlay on Defence has gone up from Rs.1,05,600 crore in BE 2008-09 to Rs.1,41,703 crore in BE 2009-10.” Even fiscal deficit has been renamed as ‘fiscal stimulation’ to hide the fact that quantum of fiscal deficit is projected at 6.8% of GDP in 2009-10. Government has also opened newer avenues for deployment of black money without attracting tax, let alone penalty, by exempting election funding and anonymous donations in charitable trusts from taxation. And above all, when the countrymen are bleeding white because of unprecedented price spiral, the Finance Minister had no qualms to mention in his budget speech that there has been a “sharp fall close to 0% in the wholesale price index in March 2009” which speaks volume as to how truthful he and his government are in their avowed promise of ‘caring for the “aam aadmi”, observed Comrade Mukherjee. Bringing transport of goods under the purview of service tax will entail further rise in price as all such burden of indirect taxation is squarely passed on the end-users. But any reduction in indirect tax rate like lowering of excise or customs duty never gets reflected in retail prices thereby bringing no relief to the consumers, Comrade Mukherjee added. He also drew attention to the fact that while countrywide peasants are among other things suffering from acute shortage of proper irrigation facilities, the budget has remained conspicuously silent on the matter. An impression has been sought to be given as if grant of an increased quantum of loan at 7% interest to the farmers with a provision for waiver of 1% interest in case of timely repayment is the sole driver of agricultural development which, when viewed in the context of large scale suicide of farmers unable to get out of huge debt burden because of non-receipt of remunerative prices of their produces, appears to be a cruel joke. The budget has no mention as to what the government is thinking about over 3 million retrenched workers or if it has any plan to reopen thousands of closed factories. On one hand, people are being turned into beggars through savage economic exploitation, while on the other, the government is taking credit for throwing alms to them under this or that schemes with mouthful names, BPL doles and so forth, observed Comrade Mukherjee.

Comrade Mukherjee also pointed out that alongside distribution of largesse to the corporates, big business and black money holders, there has been no dearth of customary announcements of increased allocations and projects of public welfare benefits of which, people know by experience, never reach the targeted segments. On the contrary, an utter corrupt nexus of administration-police-businessman-hoarders-contractors-satraps of vote-based parliamentarian parties corner all the benefits and become aggrandized with government remaining an indulgent onlooker. While it is necessary that the government comes forward with some concrete proposal of job creation by setting up labour-intensive industries in the public sector, the ruling dispensation instead has concentrated all their favours on the profit-greedy private industrialists and shamelessly announced a plan for modernizing the employment exchanges adding insult to the injury of the millions of unemployed youths.

Comrade Mukherjee, therefore, called upon all sections of the toiling masses not to accept such frauds and deceptions of the political agents of the exploitative ruling bourgeoisie by lying low and rise up against such a manoeuevred budget to serve the rich at the cost of the poor.

SUCI on Railway budget 2009-10

Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary of SUCI in course of statement issued on 4 July, 2009, on Railway Budget, said :

While changes in the basic policies can not be expected in the present political-social-economic system, some pro-people relief measures can be undertaken if good intensions are there. The proposals and promises, except the PPP scheme, made in the Railway Budget, 2009-10 by the Railway Minister, if could be implemented overcoming the bureaucratic hurdles and various other obstacles of different vested interest groups, can meet the expectations of the people. Before preparing the budget Ms. Mamata Banerjee sought suggestions and proposals from various quarters including our party.

It is noted that along with others’ she has also accepted most of our proposals. It may be recalled that on many previous occasions when the government in order to raise passenger fares, took the plea of shortage of funds we had demanded that the vast tracks of unutilized land under railway be made economically viable. The present Railway Minister has taken a step to that direction also.

As to the public-private partnership scheme, though privatization of the state enterprises was opposed in the TMC party’s election manifesto, but now being a partner of the Congress-led UPA government she is following the anti-people privatization policy of the Congress.

We like to add further that in the interest of the people the new Railway Minister should look into the long standing problems of maintenance of railway bogies and tracks, pilferage of money and properties, should accept the just demands of the railway employees, fill up the vacant posts and should do her best to make railway a truly employment generating service sector.

SUCI opposes hike in petrol-diesel prices and calls upon
the people to resist it by movement

Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a statement issued on 2 July, 2009, said that as apprehended, Congress, the most trusted representative of ruling exploiting capitalist class which clinched an electoral victory riding on a surfeit of false promises and deceptions and exploiting to the hilt the absence of the desired surge of left-democratic movement caused by desertion of the path of democratic movement by the CPI (M), CPI has started rolling out its sinister agenda of taking anti-people steps one after another. The steep hike in the retail prices of petrol-diesel marks beginning of that, said Comrade Mukherjee. It is worth noting, Comrade Mukherjee added, that this price hike has been effected by means of issue of an administrative fiat just on the eve of the budget session of the parliament. This clearly shows that this Congress-led government does not have even a scant regard for minimum democratic norms and would continue to bring such anti-people measures bypassing the parliament and thereby making a mockery of parliamentary democracy. Needless to say that this escalated fuel price will further push up the already spiralling price line of essential commodities that the capitalists-imperialists round the world gasping under an unprecedented insoluble market crisis have been engineering to sustain maximization of their profits and make life yet more devastating for the common people bearing the entire brunt of the crisis. The Congress-led government is advancing the same customary plea of spurt in international oil price to justify the increase of retail fuel tariff. But those having sole objective of profit maximization by resorting to any foul means, will never be in short supply of such excuses in justifying continuous jacking up of prices of essential items making life yet more unbearable for the toiling millions, pointed out Comrade Mukherjee.

So the pauperized misery-stricken and exploited people, emphasized Comrade Mukherjee, have no alternative but to resist this most unjustified and ill-motivated increase in fuel price with all their might by releasing a powerful movement throughout the length and breadth of country. Otherwise, there will be no respite from this strangulating situation but only aggravation of destitution and ruination, warned Comrade Mukherjee.

SUCI strongly disapproves Delhi High Court verdict legalizing homosexuality which would pollute the youth by encouraging pervert promiscuity and calls upon the right thinking people to demand immediate rescinding of the same

Strongly disapproving the judgment of Delhi High Court declaring section 377 of Indian Penal Code to be violative of the fundamental rights granted in Indian Constitution and thereby legalizing homosexuality, Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a statement issued on 3 July, 2009, said that this ruling is a transgression on the part of the judiciary to extend to a sphere which is always governed and guided by social opinion, social interest and socio-cultural ethical necessities. This judgment, Comrade Mukherjee observed, will simply open the floodgate of degraded degenerated imperialist culture that among other things instigates perversion and sexual promiscuity with the vile objective of destroying the very moral backbone of the people particularly the youth. This nefarious design of crippling the youth from within is being assiduously pursued by the ruling capitalist class with the sinister motive to disturb growth and development of revolutionary movement based on the edifice of higher ethics and culture in the country, pointed out Comrade Mukherjee.

Comrade Mukherjee urged the countrymen particularly the youth not to fall prey to this heinous conspiracy of the ruling class and boldly come out to foil the same. He also called upon all right-thinking people to develop powerful social cultural movement throughout the country demanding immediate revoking of this High Court verdict fraught with disastrous consequences.

SUCI protests Central government’s move to deregulate oil price

Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a statement issued on 31 May, 2009, expressed grave concern and anguish over the proposed move on the part of the newly elected Congress-led UPA government to abolish oil subsidy and deregulate oil pricing and thereby allow the bumper profit-making oil companies to arbitrarily fix the retail tariff of petrol-diesel in the name of keeping parity with fluctuating international crude price. Granting such exclusive power of retail price determination to the oil behemoths is a clear indication that the government will gradually move out of whatever public welfare it now formally undertakes and pave the way of large scale privatization of areas now in the government sector, observed Comrade Mukherjee. He further said that leaving the common people to the mercy of the oil sharks will cause continuous rise in the prices of petroleum products which in turn will further push up the already spiralling priceline causing immense hardship to the people bleeding white under ruthless capitalist exploitation. This, Comrade Mukherjee added, once again shows how the Congress is in hot pursuit of the brazenly anti-people policies of capitalist globalization and has no qualms in subjecting the suffering masses, whom it pretends to be so much concerned of, to further peril and pauperization. Comrade Mukherjee called upon the countrymen to build up countrywide powerful resistance movement to thwart the pernicious move.

SUCI criticizes Government of India’s denouncing of
reported Nuclear test by North Korea

Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a statement issued on 26 May 2009 strongly criticized Government of India for denouncing the reported nuclear test by North Korea. When lasting solution of the problem arising out of possession of nuclear weapons by various states lies in total disarmament and destruction of all nuclear arsenals by all countries, it is highly condemnable that Government of India alongwith US and its other imperialist allies, instead of engaging themselves to the task, are indulging in such hypocritical denigration of socialist North Korea not amenable to the dictates of the imperialist war-mongers, said Comrade Mukherjee. Such action by the imperialist bloc and Government of India is seemingly purported to sustain their monopolistic hold over nuclear armoury and hence exposes their sheer double standard and crass opportunism, he observed.

SUCI MP will sit in Parliament in the Opposition Bench

Strongly contradicting the highly distorted news appearing in a section of the media to the effect that the newly elected SUCI MP Sri Tarun Mandal is extending support to the Congress-led UPA government, Sri Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a statement issued on 21 May, 2009 emphatically stated that it was totally baseless. Recalling the fact that although the party fought the last Lok Shabha poll in West Bengal in alliance with the Trinamul Congress which developed in course of conducting people’s movements, yet it also fought against the Congress candidates in West Bengal, as it stands firmly opposed to the Congress party and its government, it being the most trusted party of the ruling capitalist class. Sri Mukherjee therefore made it emphatically clear that in pursuance of the party’s consistent policy of opposing the Congress party and its government, Sri Tarun Mandal will oppose pro-capitalist and anti-people policies of the Congress-led UPA government and will therefore sit in Parliament in the Opposition Bench.
